WEIGHT TRANSFER DRILL
Start position:
Position your body as if you were addressing the ball. Place your hands on your hips, as shown in the image above.
Slide your hips:
Without moving your head, slide your hips toward your target, until you feel most of your weight on your left foot. Feel your right foot role towards the target keeping your heel on the ground, as shown in the image above.
Face the target:
Finish with almost 100% of your weight on your left foot making sure your right heel is pointing in a vertical direction (straight up), as shown in the image above.
Weight transfer drill:
Let’s try to do this exercise 3 times a day for about 3 to 5 minutes. Hold the finish position for a few seconds. By holding this position, your body will become accustomed to what a good finish position feels like (muscle memory), as shown in the image above.
PASSIVE HAND DRILL
The passive hand drill is a great drill to help out with your short game. We have learned the following:
- putting;
- chip shot; and
- pitch and run shot.
These shots are all better performed when keeping the wrists still. Passive wrists actions are preferred in order to achieve better results, as shown in the image above.
Chipping drill:
Hold two clubs together, as shown in the image above. Make your stroke from 7 o’clock to 5 o’clock without breaking (bending) your wrists. If you are breaking your wrists, the extra club will hit you on
your side. Do not worry about holding the club correctly. The main idea is to be passive (still) with your wrists (keeping arms, wrists and clubs straight). This drill has helped many golfers improve their chipping.
ADDRESS POSITION / POSTURE DRILL
1. Flex forward from the hips making sure your lower spine is straight.
2. Let your arms hang in a vertical position.
3. Slightly flex your knees and slightly bring your lower back straight, as shown in the images above.
1. Stand erect: Stand erect with the hands relaxed on the club in front of you, as shown in image 1 above.
2. Extension of arms: Extend the club in front of you keeping both arms fully extended but relaxed, as shown in image 2 above.
3. Flex from the hips: Flex from the hips keeping your lower back straight. Drop the club to the ground keeping your arms fully extended and relatively close to your body. Your arms should be in a vertical position, as shown in image 3 above.
4. Flex the knees: Slightly flex your knees to make sure they are unlocked while maintaining the straight line in your lower back, as shown in image 4 above.
